MEXICO – Durable Waterpoofing solution in the Large Millimeter Telescope.

Project Description

The Large Millimeter Telescope is the world’s largest single-aperture telescope in its frequency range. It’s a joint venture between Mexico and the USA and has been built to further our understanding of the universe and the world around us!

Project Requirements

Our partners at Alchimica Mexico were recently involved with the project to waterproof the roofs on the site. The telescope is located on top of Sierra Negra, the fifth highest point in Mexico and 4,600 meters above sea level. Given the altitude the weather can prove a problem with high winds and even snow a real possibility up there. The HYPERDESMO® liquid waterproofing system was applied to the buildings to offer waterproofing and guarantee their durable performance even in the harshest weather conditions.

With excellence resistance to cold, the HYPERDESMO® SYSTEM remains elastic even at -40 ° C but also the system holds an excellent thermal resistance, the product never turns soft with maximum service temperature at 80oC and maximum shock temperature at 200oC. In addition HYPERDESMO® holds excellent mechanical properties, high tensile and tear strength that makes it the best solution for durable projects.

Exposed Concrete Roof waterproofing and inverted roof applications in Vista vela residences. MEXICO

One of the most prestigious destinations to visit in Mexico is the Los Cabos region, located in Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula. The moment you arrive in this famous resort city, you set yourself apart from the rest of the world and feel comfortable. The city is well known for its beaches, festivals and its hospitable people. In this beautiful land, the luxurious Vista Vela residences are located in one of the Los Cabos’ best residential zones.

Project Requirements

ALCHIMICA Mexico participated in the construction and development of Vista vela residences for waterproofing and protection of the roofs of the residence complex. The project itself had specific requirements due to the complexity of the roofs and the special selection of application systems that would ensure the long performance of the project.

Taking into consideration the complex architectural design of the roofs and the climatic conditions, our HYPERDESMO® concrete roof waterproofing system, was selected and applied on the concrete roofs. The system included the priming of the surface and also the sealing of the roof joints with the HYPERSEAL sealants while the certified HYPERDESMO® waterproofing membrane was applied in 2 coats.

In addition, HYPERDESMO® the ultimate polyurethane technology waterproofed and protected further challenges and details in the complex roof shapes and installations such as air-conditioning units, pipe supports, antennas.

Moreover, the inclined substrates of specific roofs needed the for inverted roof waterproofing system solution based on HYPERDESMO®-PB-2K to offer an efficient thermal insulation system solution and extra permanent protection of the waterproofing membranes.
